I attempted to upgrade to Woody 3.0 but I still need to update the kernel. After upgrading it disabled my cd rom or PCMCIA port. My cdrom is not getting any power to it and in dselect it says the access method area is already locked? How can I reactivate my cd rom? I presume it has just stopped

I have an ATAPI CD on my Thinkpad 390E, and after compiling the kernel 2.2.13 it doesn't work under dselect. I have tried to compile it as a module and built-into the kernel, but I have no success. The problem is only with dselect, because I can mount my distro CDs and can read them perfectly...
