Thanks for all the inputs. I ran dpkg-reconfigure locales and chose
pt_PT ISO-8859-1
pt_PT.UTF-8 UTF-8
en_US
Rebooted, and now everything is back to normal.

After upgrading some packages in Unstable, I lost the ability to write
accented characters on both the console and Openoffice 2. All other apps
work fine (Jpilot, Kwrite, Lyx, etc.).
I was looking for new bugs on some packages but I couldn't find any info.
Any suggestions/infos?
