I am having troubles with sound: following the archlinux wiki I modified
the /usr/share/alsa/ucm

I have Master, PCM, S/PDIF, S/PIDF Defa, S/PDIF 1, S/PDIF 2.
Master and PCM aren't muted (I hear sound from the speakers).

I just plugged in a "Hercules USB 5.1 Channel Audio Adapter" and it
works like a charm.
I tried with both pulseaudio

working flawlessly.
Then I accidentally removed myself from all groups with usermod. To fix
things (like having no sound, since I removed myself from audio group) I

Check the bios of the machine, there is an option called, "fan always on".
On hp dv5 is enabled by default. The machine get cooler with this
option on, try to set it as you like.
Remember that leaving the fan on at minimum speed is better than
leaving it off and periodically spin it up at maximum

I recently upgrade Etch to Lenny using apt-get dist-upgrade after
changing all etch occurrences in sources.list. I am facing problems
that were there is Etch also, mainly the Fn+* keys not working and

This is probably not related to your problem but I can switch on/off
headphone and/or speakers outputs independently. It took me a while to
notice this and that solved a lot of my sound issues ;) Actually, all of
them :D

I have a thinkpad x61s and I'm using debian unstable.
The thing is I can't get no sound even thou I'm using alsa 1.0.15
which should work with my Analog Devices 1984 sound card using
snd_hda_intel module which is loaded.
I can hear something if I press backspace on a console
