The option "SHM Config" must be "on" in your X86Config-4 (or whatever version
of X config you use) for some features to work.
If you wish to use a gui for it, may I suggest qsynaptics.

have you installed the synaptics package? I got a synaptics touchpad and
it never gave me any trouble...
