On my desktop i've done the following, it's an ugly way but it's ok now
installation using ./ati-driver-installer-8.24.8-x86.run by setting
X_VERSION to 6.9
cp all from /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/ about fglrx to
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/.
ls /usr/X11R6/lib

Flavio posted on the fglrx list that a new 8.24 version compatible with
X.org 7.0 is available for testing.
