OK, you need to select those other options (I'm pretty sure that automatic power
down is one of them). Unless your specific laptop is mentioned in the caveats,
you should probably pick the option. Even if they don't work, you won't be any
worse off than you are now.

"apm -i" causes apm to give me a "usage" message instead of doing
anything (even though i is listed as an option in the usage message).
