Hi,
3) when running debian on a laptop, is the ipw2200 package/code for wireless
devices available for debian as a package?
you'll find ipw2200 in the latest kernels, but proably you'll need to
manually insert firmware. You can find it at
http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/firmware.php

Hi List;
I'm a debian newbie with a few questions. I'm going to try running debian on
my IBM thinkpad laptop (Z60m).

Never mind, I did a clean re-install, and this time I enabled PCMCIA
during the initial config from the rescue floppy boot even though I
was installing from CD, not network, and it now works.

Look at the rc.init scripts. REMOVE the one that's labeled gdm. When you
start the machine, it will go into text mode.

Remove the package gdm (apt-get remove gdm) or change the
/etc/rc?.d/S??gdm to K??gdm (or use the program update-rc.d to do this).

1. Whenever I start the machine it goes straight into GNOME desktop. How do
I stop that?
2. I need to tell it to make the screen 1024x768 instead of 800x600. How do
I do that?
3. Need to setup the system to use my Thinkpads Trackpoint mouse. How do I
do that?
