Ok I did the command, and I checked it, and my user is now part of the audio
group, however the 'dsp' permission continues to show up, and no sound can
my issused from the speakers. What, if anything, do I do next? TIA!!

I don't really know about your nic..Is an integrated one? Which kernel
are you running?
But the sound should work if you add your normal user to /etc/group .
