Kernel 2.6.5 wont boot

Hi all, I'm trying to install the 2.6.5 kernel on my Dell Inspiron 8600 but having troubles getting it to boot. It boots so far as loading the PCcard cardmgr but after that it just hangs with the following message: cardmgr[1072]: watching 1 socket cs: IO port probe 0x0c00-0x0cff: clean. cs: IO
