This could be a lot of things, from what we can tell from the post. My
initial thought would be to move the garmin source tree into /usr/src/
and then perform the following from the garming source directory:
(the following should all be on one line)
sudo sh ./compile.sh /usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.
I cannot get garmin_gps to compile.
I tried using the stock Debian kernel 2.6.10-1-686.
Running: sudo sh ./compile.sh /usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.10
in the garmin_gps-0.22 directory (where the source is), gives me pages
and pages of warnings and errors ending with:

Hi,
I use garmin-gps driver from sourceforge
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/garmin-gps/) and it's working fine with
my kismet
Before I could not detect it with lsusb because I used ehci-hcd
Then I changed to uhci-hcd, reboot while connecting the gps and I could
see it's mapped to /dev/ttyUSB0
Wit
usbserial is loaded
gpsd -p /dev/ttyUSB0 does not seem to work
gpsd -p /dev/ttyUSB1 does not seem to work
I have pointed gpsprobe at port entries as well. It just says
"Waiting for /dev/ttyUSB0" and never gets past that.
If it matters, the GPS seems to work on my Windows XP system; just not
on

gpsd -p /dev/ttyUSB0 should work.

Should be part of the kernel source. If you are using a stock kernel,
it should be compiled for you. Try "modprobe usbserial".

I have recently purchased a GPS that I hoped would be portable and easy to use.
The Garmin GPS-18 is about the size of a 6' tape measure.
It is USB and gets its power from USB.
However, I cannot get gpsd to talk to it. Because of that, the other
programs that work with the GPS (xgps, gpsman, gp
