Well, kill does NOT kill processes only, it is used to send signals to
processes. In that sense, the process, if programmed so, can simply choose to
ignore the signal. When you type kill -9, you send the actual KILL signal,
which cannot be caught and ignored.

plug the usb stick in and take a look in /proc/bus/usb/devices, to see whether
it was recognized... if it was, putting the line given by Curt should work. I
must say that I'm experiencing problems with usb2. My machine is an acer, and
I can't get my usb2 to work, unless I remove the module ehci_

problem... I'm not sure it is gonna work in your case, for I installed in
Fedora (it was not my machine). So, I'll tell you what I did in Fedora and you
put it in Debian (to make the translation, check

was trying to install a usb network adapter (wireless) - a linksys wusb54g -
in a PC running fedora2. Cool.
I used ndiswrapper to get the windows driver to work. Everything is ok,

what's your laptop? which model?
Plus, I may have missed any message you posted before this one, but which OS
are you trying to install? which debian?
And what is your graphics card?
I have a 1355 and have experienced no problem at all running the testing
distribution of debian (sarge)

I've never installed debian on a laptop, so that's my question:
