route of running alsaconf? alsaconf successfully configures my sound
without a problem.

Only when I saw that he had attempted to clarify/edit his message and

t solution is to only enable a short spin down and
short screen lamp off time when you are on battery, and alter this
behavior for when you are running on AC.
Or perhaps you could purchase a second battery back instead, and set
your harddrive free to run as it likes.

e sure what the "fan" module in the ACPI section of the
kernel config is supposed to do; I get nothing in /proc/acpi/fan/, and
the source is undocumented.
You could try searching the LKML?
But then you very well could fry your laptop; I've heard worse.

I'm afraid that for me this is one of those cases where the practical
considerations of having a working laptop have more influence than free

I'm running Debian Woody with kernel 2.4.18
After booting the laptop:
- When I suspend-to-ram a first time no tone occurs.
- After resuming if I suspend-to-ram any additional times
a terribly loud tone sounds just before it is powered down
to suspend status.
Neither "xset b off" or "setterm -blen
