Thank you to all of you for your answers.
I found that by default the DEbian installer set yes as the value of the
constant UTC - specified in the file /etc/default/rcS -. I switched it
to NO and then back to YES : now the date command shows me the correct time.
So I think this is the general

It's time :-) to understand why my DEBIAN/GNU/LINUX system thinks that
the "BIOS time" is set up as the GMT time and shift it to the "local" time.
1- what part of the system controls this behavior ? is there only a flag

Hi all,
I have just installed debian etch on my asus a2520 - basic NETINST.
Sometimes, it seems quite random as a problem, I have a kernel panic
just right after the linux boot, started by GRUB.
THis similar problem happened right after GRUB tried to "launch" the os.
windows - random too.
