Vaio FX501

I just bought a Vaio fx501. Windows xp sucks on my vaio for some cd-roms can only be read under... dos... (for real). But is the battery thing the only problem? I can imagine that the modem/the tv-out settings are hard to install properly as well? Kind regards from just another debian-newbie
