If you are running a 2.0 series kernel you may need to upgrade to a
2.2 for
the correct driver .
If it is you will need to recompile the kernel with the correct driver
and irq
settings (if you select a module you don't need to specify the irq's).
Failing that tell us more about your hardware, maybe send us the output
of
/bin/dmesg.

cript, you don't even have to be
root to execute it as the sound card just needs the signal to wake up.
look for the sound script in your rc*.d directories and execute 'sound
-restart' if you experience this problem.
