I notice strange behaviour with mounting/playing audio CDs on my
laptop's drive:
Sometimes I have problems with mounting cd's/dvd's on my CD/CDR/DVD
drive (laptop: Compaq Armada M700; drive: H-L GCC-4240N 24x
DVD/CDR/CDRW). Kernel doesn't seem to recognize the device (messages
like: /dev/cdro

I got the similar problem with my old DVD/CD-ROM for Compaq Armada M700
(drive model DRN-8040B). Just like yours, it could only read DVDs with
movies (i.e. no data DVDs, no data/audio CDs). In my case it was drive's
fault rather than OS's (under win2000 I got the same).
I had to order a new dr
