Dell Inspiron 8600 ACPI doesn't like the BIOS

ven't found one for debian, and I'm scared to try to patch the kernel or something when I don't know what I'm doing. It seems to me that the problem is with Dell's BIOS, but I'm hoping there is something I can do to get the acpi stuff going. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks, Helen Faulkner
