You can drop the cache with this command:
sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
See what it does at my laptop:
root@laptop:~# free -m
total used free sharedbuffers
cached
Mem: 7439 3029 4409201 91 1368
-/+ buffer

've searched on dri.sourceforge.net but there aren't any dri drivers
for trident.
I don't understand if the problem of mplayer is relate to dri driver or
