I'm using the guessnet package with my laptop. It can be configured with
/etc/network/interfaces like this:
auto lo eth0
iface lo inet loopback
mapping eth0
script /usr/bin/guessnet
map 10.3.67.3 00:50:04:BE:05:CD 10.3.64.42eth0-work
map 192.168.1.1

I've a Dell Latitude C800 machine running here with a resolution
of 1400x1050 pixels on its display.
Now there are some special cases where I want a lower resolution,
but I can't find propper modelines for i.e. 640x480 or 1024x768 since
the panel is somewhat sensible about frequencies.
