That's not a suspend2 issue. Vanilla kernel 2.6.17 has not the support for ahci sata controller suspend and resume. Patched kernels like the ubuntu's one has patches to make work suspend to disk (indifferently suspend1, uswsusp or suspend2). For suspend to ram to work you need 2.6.18.*-mm* or >2.6
