startup of the computer, or does it start by a multiboot menu such LILO or GRUB
? if not, you should reuse the ubuntu installation disk to rerun not all the
installation but only the installation of the multiboot

The reason, why one should install Windows first is quite clear: Windows
is not prepared to accept another OS besides it. Its installer simply
clears anything another installation has written to the master boot
record; therefore it's not possible to boot from the hard disk to any

The reason is simple: Microsoft just doesn't bother whether there are other OS
installed. Y
It sounds like winxp overwrote your bootmanager created by Ubuntu.
You may need to install a new bootmanager, since I think windows is less
friendly to boot other systems since winnt. But I may be wrong.

There's quite a bit of libc packages. One of them is libc6-i686 which is
an optimized version. It is suited for your cpu.
