I was trying to get cut & paste in X Window working. The effect: no
problem when it comes to Gnome applications (like gedit etc.) and

web-radio via xmms the music was 10 times faster than usual - pretty funny
but not what I wanted, anyway xmms died after a few secondes.
Then I did
/etc/init.d/alsa-autoconfig as root
but now I get no sound at

was easy. BUT: a few things didn't work correctly and needed a bit more
fiddling: acpi, touchpad special functions (needed synaptic driver),
network card (needed newer kernel 2.4.21), wifi (still not working), modem
