H ok, I see there's the "initial" investment of having to tote 4
humans from the ivory coast, but I don't see the usual millions of dollars
which I'll recieve 20% of. I don't particularly want 4/5ths of a human,
especially when 3/4ths of that would be a child.
ok - my sense of humor sucks. b

ISTR some discussion on lkml about the sb drivers allowing very silly
settings for buffers and mpg321 being one of the worst off
On an old SGI Indy (mips architecture) mpg321 also uses about 90% of the
cpu whereas ogg123 is just around 60%
You could also try using different mp3 players, maybe they use
different code to play mp3s.
Also try differnet bitrates. Decoding a 320 kBit file certainly uses
more CPU than 128 kbit file

It's not normal at all IMO.
Can you try to run "top" when playing mp3 to see which process(es) use(s)
your CPU?

Hello everybody ,
I have just finished to install and configure a debian 3.0 which runs on
a toshiba satellite 210C (Pentium 120Mhz ,16Mo RAM and 1Go HD ).I can
use xfree3.3.6 or the 4.1.0 in 800x600 16 bits and my soundcard (chipset
ess668 ) seems to work fine .But when I am playing mp3 i
