I tried almost anything I could to configure my 3Com card running
"Woody" with kernel 2.2.x installed without any success.
I want to upgrade to kernel to 2.4.19. Do you know if this kernel version
supports 3Com Ethernet cards?
Thanks for helping.

You could edit /etc/pcmcia/network.opts with your desired configuration.
(Use DHCP or static address, gateway address, etc.) Then comment out
anything in /etc/network/interfaces relating to eth1.
That way if the PC card is inserted it is configured; if not the system
doesn't try to bring up an int
I know with the Inspiron 8000 you can apt-get I8kutils that handles the fan
control, so that your fans switch on and off like they do in windows. I dont
know if it will work for any of the other series models of inspiron

Sounds like a csh problem to me. If you have updated csh recently, and
if (I don't use csh) csh handles echo as an internal command, maybe this
echo doesn't support anymore escape sequences the way it used to. Maybe
you should try /bin/echo -ne ... ???

Hello List,
I'm using an acer TM 521 TEV. APM support is integrated into my kernel.
My problem is:
When I close my notebook it puts itself to sleep, fine.
But when I want to use the hdparm -S to let my harddisc spindown when
it's not in use it alway wakes up after about 10 sec.
On my old system wit

With a (pre?)2.4.18 kernel, this is a known bug which usually
occurs if the wireless card is sharing interrupts
