hi,
90% of my networking problems have been due to faulty cables. Some had the
wrong sets of pairs twisted together, so that work fine at 10Mbs but not at
100Mbs - never let a software engineer make cables up :) So check/swap
cables round to test them.
Also I would try forcing the windoze pc to
Since you seem to have gotten a reply to your question, I feel compelled
to ask about something else you mentioned in passing in your post...

Another idea:
If you already have a somewhat working OS of another type
you could always go the install-from-harddrive route.
I've done that a couple of times. Using a prior monopolistic
OS, I downloaded the dos tools (loadlin fips etc), the
kernel (linux), the diskette images boot.bin, roo

Yeah, that works for the first go, but how to get the
subsequent pages (just the ones that are interesting)?

Excellent.

if it's CompactFlash, then it's got an ide interface. I've always had them mount as
the /dev just after your last IDE bus: usually /dev/hde1
and it's always been vfat for me -- long filenames.
hope this helps.

I used to have Debian running on a Tecra 750CDM and I used
the i82365 chip selection with no other options and it worked
fine.
I did the 5 diskette install (now this is a 6 diskette

Hi,
I'm trying to install Debian on my "new" Toshiba Tecra 550 CDT, but
can't get the PCMCIA controler to run. During the installation I'm asked
which type of controler I have (PCIC or i82???) but none of them can be
installed. Windows reported a toPIC97 controler, and somewhere I read
something

Hi,
just a quick survey (please look up the Packaging-Manual.deb,
Developers-Reference.deb man make-kpkg etc. for details):
- untar the source in /usr/src/modules
- copy an existing debian tree from a pc
You can try with a PLIP installation, if you have another linux box
anywhere at hand to mount the CDROM from. See the PLIP-INSTALL mini-HOWTO,
very well written.

I have a 64MB flash memory card with a pcmcia adapter.
As far as I know those things use ide/ata interface.
It worked this way on my old Laptop with a potato frozen
release. I could mount it with something like
"mount -t msdos /dev/hde1 /flash".
Something changed in the meanwhile with potato
