Please note that this problem is addressed in the scripts for the
ALSA sound drivers furnished in the alsa-base package (... get the
latest version). The package includes a file
/usr/lib/alsa-base/snd-dev-utils which contains bash functions
which you may find useful.

Hi. I just want to let you know that I have run into exactly the
same behavior as you did.
Originally I compiled my kernel with the PCMCIA driver as a module.
I recompiled to make the PCMCIA driver integral (i.e., I selected "y"
instead of "m" for PCMCIA in "make xconfig") and since then I have

Try removing the appropriate hardlinks in /etc/rc*.d/ which are used at
startup to start various daemons.

Using Kernel 2.2.17, the olitec module from
http://www.olitec.com/pub/HSF_V1.01.02_K2.2.14-5.0.tar
and the patch from
http://redrival.com/btifaq/HSF_rw_patch.tar.gz
the modules load perfectly into the kernel:

1. you can apt-get remove packagename
or
2. go to /etc/rc2.d and remove the symlink
debian boots to initlevel 2 by default
