Would it be possible for you to describe what "tweaking" you did in order to
get X working on the 8100 please? If possible could you attach the config
file (either privately or to the list).
(I still haven't got it working!).

following your route, I solved the problem. the pcmcia I installed before was
for
kernel version 2.0.38. It works again after I installed the right pcmcia-module

Well, I have a 3500 and it was painless. I used FIPS to reduce the size
of my FAT32 partition (the latest version supports it with no problem).
It can use a partition or a file, but use the phdisk utility to check what
it is using, and to delete or recreate the partition/file. The goldcard
