I got the same issue here. Why not solve the problem by adding calls to
lvm initialization in the "Waiting for root filesystem" loop ?
A workaround is to add break=mount to the kernel command line, wait for
the usb disk to come up and just exit,

And how do you check the correctness of build-dependencies on this
machine which usualy have all compilers installed?

I've check that Samuel wrote a patch to kbd package, see kernel bug 7746. It
seems to me that it affects loadkeys binary only.
I use package console-tools, so I cannot use package kbd.
It seems console-tools is preferred (`console-tools' was developed from
