I reproduced this with linux-image-6.4.0-1-amd64 (after a reboot, of
course).
This time, a full write via direct I/O did not trigger the crash, but a
subsequent write via buffered I/O did result in a crash.

Via snapshot.debian.org you should be able to find various 6.3.X versions, all
uploaded to Experimental at the time.
Could you try whether the issue is present in all those versions?

Package: linux-image-6.3.0-2-amd64
Version: 6.3.11-1
Severity: important
With this update of linux-image, there is only the highest resolution
available anymore. As this is 3840x2400, it leaves the screen completely
unreadable and unusable.
Installing the previous kernel solves the problem.
