reopen 575454 thanks That's very strange, then. As you can see from the pstree in bug #570321, modprobe is not being called with -qb, despite it being in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/init . I can't find a reference to $MODPROBE_OPTIONS anywhere in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/ nor /usr/sbin/mkini
