Should I open a new issue, since what I am getting is with kernel 2.6.18, wodim
and a Samsung drive?

I am still getting the problem.
I have
CDR_NODMATEST=true
in /etc/environment
The drive reads CDs and DVDs all right.
I insert a blank CD-R disk in the drive.
I run:
wodim dev=/dev/cdrw /home/john/debian-testing-i386-CD-1.iso
in a terminal and I get:
wodim: No write mode specified.
wodim: As

I seem to be getting the same problem (system hang and dmesg as above) when
trying to write to a CD using nautilus-cd-burner. I am using Debian testing,
2.6.18 kernel and my CD drive is a SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD SM-308B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive.
