Got bit by this in and old laptop.
Have LVM on it, with /usr in its own partitition, and /usr/lib in its own
partition.
Fixed by adding
dep_add_modules_mount /usr/lib
to hook_functions, and
if read_fstab_entry /usr/lib; then
log_begin_msg "Mounting /usr/lib file system"
mountfs
A patch for this bug has been committed to kernel, will be included in 3.4.

It works, at least for me.
Please consider its inclusion in future 3.3 images.
