I tried one other experiment, plugging the pegasus adapter in at various points in the NSLU2's boot sequence, to see whether the bootloaders might be affecting the device. Based on http://www.cyrius.com/debian/nslu2/boot.html , the MAC came up zeroed out if the device was plugged in anywhere prior
