The upstream kernel people have resolved the issue. You can go there

When I install firmware-linux, it breaks xserver-xorg-video-radeon. X freezes

Yes! I changed sbim to sbin and the kernel installed. So, what package
does kernel-img.conf come with? That is the package that has the bug.
