Thanks for the heads up. I've just installed 4.9.30-2+deb9u2 to see if
that resolves my issues.
I had been running my 4.11.8 kernel with no issues for 25 days before
upgrading to Debian's backported 4.11 kernel. Sadly, the same day I
upgraded to the backported kernel, it hung!

Hi,
I have been trying to install linux-headers-4.11.0-2-amd64 on
unstable/sid for a couple of days now and cannot due to an
unresolved dependency.
Specifically, the package depends on linux-headers-4.11.0-2-common

This problem has been reported in github.
It really exists and affect sid, testing, stable but does not affect

Ok, I figured it out. I noticed that the 4.11 kernel has a more "generous"
memory layout than the 4.9 one:
kernel 4.9:
[0.00] Memory: 504492K/524288K available (3777K kernel code, 371K
rwdata, 1128K rodata, 296K init, 247K bss, 19796K reserved, 0K cma-reserved, 0K
highmem)
kernel 4.11
I just noticed the line
[ 0.267305] Unpacking initramfs...
[ 0.270704] Initramfs unpacking failed: junk in compressed archive
[ 0.304492] Freeing initrd memory: 9216K
in the output above, so I tried using the same initrd.img from flash with
kernel 4.9 and kernel 4.11:

Apologies if I'm responding to this bug in an inappropriate way
I, too, was bit by this bug last week, and seeing that a bug had been
filed, waited to see if a fix was soon forthcoming.
Any idea when the fix for this might hit Sid? Or be otherwise available to
me? Or perhaps there's a work-ar

Hi folks,
I think, and everyone might agree to it, that downgrading to an old kernel with
its security
holes and other already fixed stuff is IMO a very bad and dumb idea!
Downgrading a
kernel for a single app is always the most wrong policy.

I was able to get debug output from the failed kernel boot by adding the
