I also experienced this bug (Lenovo P50, worked with 4.2.0-1 kernel, fails with
4.8.0-2 kernel).
I was able to get things working again by downgrading - but I had to go pretty
far.

As you know, the problem is that initramfs-tools wasn't including the
nvme driver in the initramfs since it moved to a different directory.
This was fixed in version 0.121.
