I had the same problem with the kernel from unstable (2.6.29-1-686
2.6.29-3), but it went away after a couple of dist-upgrades, non of
which touched the kernel package, which means that it's some userspace
tool that caused this problem.
Now that I can't replicate this bug I can't pinpoint it to an
Package: linux-image-2.6.29-1-686

Justification: breaks the whole system
Severity: critical
I wonder if this is the same thing Neil Brown refers to, here:

The syslog shows first 97 of these:

The "smc911x" in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hook-functions looks like a typo.
I think it should be smc91x:
http://packages.debian.org/lenny/armel/linux-image-2.6.26-2-versatile/filelist
(or at least smc91x should be present in the list)

If firmware-linux is not installed, card "reports" error loading firmware,
then is not DRI enabled but no other problems.
If firmware is installed, firmware is requested and successfully loaded.
This is Intel SC450NX MP Server System.
I just updated bios to RELEASE 16.0 - Build 89 (3/1/01)
which is newset possible for this system (acording to intel support).
