The issue reproduces even with vanilla kernels.
kernel 2.6.22 -> works
kernel 2.6.23 -> Corrupted MAC on input
there are quite a bit of changes in the tg3 driver between these two versions,
it's likely that one of them has some side effects.

I can confirm this bug, as I'm seeing the same type of crashes you are
seeing for about a month now. Our server is a BackupPC machine that moves
several hundred gb of data a night over ethernet, along with a lot of disk
activity.

I don't know why there is no over-ride mechanism in the kernel or kernel
modules, but doesn't blacklisting present an option? For example, I
could easily blacklist the piix module, which my system does not
require, but that still won't work unless the ata_piix module is
compiled intact without

I've had exactly the same problem (crashed occured randomly, some times even
after week).
After reinstall to amd64 everything seems to be fine.
Currently running:
