It took some time, but finally Pavel Roskin took mercy on me... :)
After I sent him some lines of the kern.log (with the driver activated
for my pcmcia-card), he wrote to me:

There isn't one.
You could look for one of these, maybe:
/usr/bin/grub-mkimage
/usr/bin

if do_bootloader is set it is always respected,
unless grub is not found.
