I am having connection issues with a new laptop running the ipw3945 driver.

This issue has been diagnosed [1] as a bug in the emulator and has been
fixed in version 6 of VMWare Workstation.
A patch for the kernel is available [2], but is unlikely to be accepted
upstream and thus also not applied in Debian. You can of course apply the
patch l
