I've been attempting to upgrade to KDE 3.1b2 for the past two days.
What is stalling me are dependencies. When upgrading with aptitude, a long
slew of dependency violations occur. As I've not finished resolving these I
have to ask, has anyone else had problems doing a straight upgrade from

I use KDE 3.1b2.
I made a mistake last night while trying to fix a problem where KMail would
continually crash after opening. Even after editing the kmailrc file
(something about the path to openpgp was causing the problem...), I could
not use KMail. My first thought was to delete the .kderc dir
I run Debian unstable with KDE 3.1b2 from shakti.cx and upgrade nightly.

I'm not at my box and so must re-type the error message from memory.
My box can only play sound if root has logged in, otherwise "a device to
play sound cannot be found" is reported.
I can post details later after work but any preliminary ideas?

The user "oracle" on my system cannot access their home partition
/home/oracle. The user is of group oracle and I have system wide readable
/home directories.
There is a lot of downloaded information in the directory so I did not
simply wish to delete and recreate the user/directory.
Any ideas?
I need to create a private partition to which files can be placed.
Security needs to be enforced so that password entry is required. The
partition file system needs to be encrypted.
Does KDE provide any tools suitable to this need?
Any ideas are most appreciated!
