With todays update all Qt5 based KDE/Plasma 5 stuff crashes for me.
It may be due to a party upgraded qt5.
If you want to use your Plasma 5 desktop, better do not upgrade at the moment.

So are you saying to let it uninstall all of that stuff? This is my wife's
machine, so I really can't afford to have KDE broken on it. My machine is
running pc-bsd and is quite happy.

1) Try to set OpenGL 2.0 or XRender for Desktop Effects in System Settings.
2) Try to disable Desktop Effects: Shift + Alt + F12.
