Missing font display in menu with KDE4 (python-kde4)

Hi, I am playing around with python-kde4-doc and the tutorial applications that it's shipped with. I have (up to) perfect font display in the app's main part, but the menu bar contains no visible text at all, I can only see the symbols that ought to precede the text. Looking at the spacing of
