Well I've setup the firewall with guarddog, so probably it block the acess to
the gmail SMTP protocols, since they use different ports than the normal
SMTP. What do you think about it?

What do you mean when you say "options"? The parameters of configure? And what
are you trying to compile? KDE from SVN?

Yes. I mean some extra options like --with-pam (can't remember it now
correctly), and similar options.

For some unknown reason practically all my KDE settings have vanished. I no
longer have any application menu entries (I have log out and run etc) on the
kicker (I think that's what it's called). All the application file type
associations have been lost as well.

I just installed Krusader v1.51 from the Debian 3.1 disks and the help
link within Krusader report that the help file could not be found.
I'm sure this must be known, but I couldn't find any mention of it.

If you mean the scripts in /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/ and /etc/ppp/ip-down.d/

swtiched on in configure.in.in.
The short fix appears to delete/comment out this switch as there are
issues with gcc 4.
