kdm won't start automatic (newbie)

hi there !! i have debian 2.2 stable installed and updated to kde 2.1 from kde.tdyc.com... my problem is that kdm won't start at system start-up... it says something like "/bin/start-stop-daemon : cannot execute binary file"... when i then login and just type "kdm" it starts up... anyone got

While this won't include all so-called kde apps (many qt-based apps are kde-aware, but not dependent on kde itself), you could run this command: apt-get install task-kde --simulate Which will simulate the installation, showing all packages that would be newly installed (or upgraded?) by that co

I'm no expert, but once you have the lines added to your source list, A simple apt-get update followed by apt-get install task-kde should take care of it. You might need to add other packages seperately. I'm not sure what is included in the task list. I was using 2.0.1 before I wiped my system. I

KDE 2.1 beta2 ?

I noticed on kde.org that 2.1 beta2 has been released. Is this reflected in the Debian packages yet or will it be soon? The reason I asked is that I'm about to reinstall kde on a test machine after a disk crash, and if beta2 will be up in a couple of days, I'll just wait.

Subtle differences between konsole and xterm

If I run xterm (from xfree 4.0.2)(from konsole as it happens) and then in the xterm shell I use "less", the HOME and END keys on my keyboard jumps to the beginning or end of file respectively. In konsole, I have to set the keyboard (settings/keyboard) to XFree (3.x.x) for it to work - Linux Conso

I just tried to write a letter with KWord and hd to learn, that TABS are not working at all. Key Tab does nothing, and ADD ERASE and CONFIGURE at the tab in the menu are greyed out. Has anyone else seen this? Matth
