The file you should be looking at is /etc/resolv.conf.
After a connection, you'd normally get something like
192.168.44.2 #KPPP temp entry
192.168.44.3 #KPP

I have developed a problem with kppp. Apparently it does not understand
where my DNS servers are. I found the following in the kppp manual:
10.10.1.7.
KPPP reports a successful connection, but Konqueror just says Unknown host
hostname, and Netscape® reports The server does not have a DNS
