my kontact on KDE 4.8.4 on debian wheezy acts the same sometimes.
I found the following however reproducible:
When I want to replay to one special emal, kontact goes to 100% for houres. I
have to kill it.
The Email is 950 KB big without attachments an contains "Chinese" signs mixed
with
