That did the trick.
Shouldn't kdelibs4-bin be a dependency in one of the other KDE3 packages,
then? I mean, kdelibs4-bin isn't exactly the first thing that comes to mind
when I want to install KDE3.

Well, I added the geniussystems repository to my
sources.list and did "apt-get upgrade kdebase" and it upgraded a whole mess of
stuff.
I tried logging into my Debian box at the console
and the KDE3 splash screen comes
