Try "startkde" on a command line without starting X before.
Also You might try "startx kde2" from a generic terminal.

I just tried to write a letter with KWord and hd to learn, that TABS are not
working at all. Key Tab does nothing, and ADD ERASE and CONFIGURE at the tab
in the menu are greyed out.
Has anyone else seen this?
