Right. It seems to be a KDM + i810 problem because, of all
my debian + KDE installations, only the one with the i810
suffers from this.

gnome-terminal allows the transparent background easily to
be shaded, but only toward black. Perhaps there is a way to
hack a config file with vi in order to get gnome-terminal to
do what I want. But konsole let's me get the right behavior

Did you add your user account to the 'audio' group in
'/etc/group'?

LT-left-mouse. It will stay where you put it and remember any
command-line options. The second is first to launch the panel dock
extension, which will swallow the dock app. The problem with this is that
the dock extension doesn't remember dock app command line arguments.

Am I missing something? lpr works. kword's print dialog shows the printer
in printcap. But I can't print from kword, and I can't even print to a
file.
